R.S.A. BALL
For Raising of Funds
An explanation that tho purpose of tho Hastings R.S.A. ball on October 4 is hot to provide “a night out for tho Diggers,” but to enable tho R.S.A. to raise funds for its very necessary and important work of helping men in need, was given by Mr. T. O’Dowd, chairman ot the Ball Committee, at the ex-servicemen’s reunion last evening. Several ex-servicemen unfortunately not in tho best of circumstances, said Mr. O’Dowd, bad complained that the prices to bo charged, namely 7/6 and 4/-, would make it impossible for them to attend. Much as the association regrettea that circumstance said Air. O’Dowd, it should bo pointed out that it was exactly that sort of thing that guided the committee in fixing the charges. The committee's aim was to make a healthy profit, and it should bo realised that without funds the association could not carry on its work of helping cx-servieeiueu in poor circumstances and in need of assistance. The ball was rather iu aid of the Diggers than for their enjoyment. Iu answer to a request by Mr. O’Dowd many otters ot assistance were obtained, and obviously the feeling among those present was oue of determination to make the ball a tremendous success. Handy-men will be wanted at the Assembly Hall on October 3 and 4, and anyone willing to help is asked to notify Mr. C .Prebble, care of Messrs. Williams, and Creagh.
