RAUPARE DRAINAGE

Change of Control Sought PETITION TO MINISTER A petition signed by three-fourths of the Rauparo and Twyl’ord settlors praying lor the abolition of the Raupare Drainage Board in order that the Hawke's Bay County Council cun assume control has been forwarded to the Minister of Internal Affairs. The Raupare Drainage Board was formed about ten years ago, during which period it has controlled the drainage of Raupare, Twyford and portion of Mahora. Its revenue consisted of a special rate levied over the district under its control, plus a yearly grant ■>f £5O made by the Hawke’s Bay County Council. Of late settlers have felt that it would be to tho advantage of the district if the control of tho drainage reverted back to the County Council,

A short time ago a deputation waited upon the council and as the result of representations made the council agreed to assume control of the drainage of the district as far as the roads were concerned. Until the board was dissolved the council could not function in the matter and for that purpose the petition has been presented, I’l’ior to the board being framed tho drainage was a charge upon the funds of the Heretuu nga ri< I i ug.
