OBITUARY
Mr. James U. Whitehead
The death has occurred of Mr. James Unwin Whitehead, manager of Blythes’ branch at Dannovirke for the pass three years, aged. 47. He was wellknown in the drapery trade, His death this morning followed a seizure on Monday night while he was absent from home. He leaves a widow and a grown-up sou.
Mr. Oscar Symes
Word has been received from Auckland of the death yesterday, nt his Epsom home, i n his 84th year, of.Mr Oscar. Symes. The third of the nine sons of one of Taranaki's earliest settlers, who afterwards moved to the Wanganui district, Mr Symes was himself among the pioneers of the Waverley district, where he carried on successful farming operations during the greater part of his life. Retiring from active work some tew years ago, he took up his residence in Auckland. The deceased gentleman leaves a widow, but no children. Mr A. F. M. Symes, of Hastings, is one of his nephew's.
