CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 11
The Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association has received a letter from a branch association stating that a German who had fought for his country against the Allies in the war desired membership. What were they to do? The Christchurch secretary replied that there was no provision for membership for an enemy soldier, but it was within the power of the branch to make a German ex-soldier an honorary member, the only consideration being personal character and similar considerations. The action of the secretary was approved by the chairman, the Rev. 1. T. Read, who said he believed in the principle of extending friendship to •x-enemies.
