HARBOUR LOAN POLL’

Congratulatory Letters Letters of congratulation upon the success of its recent loan proposals for the breakwater harbour were yesterday received by the Napier Harbour Board from the Lyttelton Harbour Board and the Napier Chamber of Commerce. The chairman, Mr. T. M Gcddis, said that these letters were similar to many others he had received from various parts of New Zealand. The secretary of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, Mr. C. Chisholm, wrote as follows:—“At ’the meeting of tho.Lyttelton Harbour Board on the 6th inst., the chairman (Mr E. J. Howard, M.P.) referred in felicitous terms to your board’s splendid success in the carrying of your loan propsal of £335,000 for the construction of a breakwater harbour as recommended by your recent commission, Messrs Furkert and Holdorness. In adopting tho chairman’s report and endorsing his remarks, the board instructed mo to convey to the chairman and members of your board tho most cordial and fraternal congratulations upon your board’s success and upon the confidence in the board and Napier district shown by your ratepayers. With its congratulations, my board offers to your board and its officers its best wishes for the future prosperity and greatness of the port of Napier. With my board’s sentiments, its officers respectfully desire o associate themselves. ’ ’

Mr R. M. Chadwick, secretary of the Napier Chamber of Commerce, addressed the following letter:—“l have been directed by this chamber to congratulate von personally and the members of your board upon the success achieved rn the passing of the loan for the Breakwater proposals. It is considered that the benefits derived from the provision of a satisfactory harbour will prove a most important factor in the uniting of the interests of our primary producers, importers and exporters. The members of the chamber tender their best wishes for the success of the undertaking.’’ “T am very pleased that these letters are on the order paper, as it affords the opportunity of expressing appreciation of the many similar letters we have re reived from one end of New Zealand to the other,’’ said Mr Geddis. “I have replied Io just on 300 similar letters, and 1 may say that the expressions of congratulations are nppreei riled by the board.” Both letters were received.
