POPULAR TEACHER FAREWELLED. MR. LOCKHART HONOURED. From Our Own Correspondent. WAIPAWA, August 20. Prior to the close of the school on Friday afternoon tor the term holidays the secondary school pupils assembled to extend a farewell to Air J. A. Lockhart, who is leaving to take up a position at Denniston. The headmaster, Mr J. H. Hill, expressed regret on behalf of the staff and the pupils at the departure of Mr Lockhart and also of Mi's Lockhart, who had always been interested in the welfare of the school. Mr Hill presented Mr Lockhart with a wristlet watch and Mrs Lockhart with a handbag as small ■mementoes, carrying with them the best wishes for future success from the staff and pupils of the school. Mr Lockhart suitably responded. While operating a saw-bench during the week-end, Mr A. W. Avison, of Waipawa, had the misfortune to severe his thumb, and to cut his index finger so badly as to necessitate its removal. Mr H. Ayres has been compelled to enter the hospital tor treatment.
