ST. JOHN AMBULANCE

Demonstrations in Napier Saturday was the street appeal day for the Napier branch of the St. John Ambulance Association, and for the purpose of impressing the public with the value of the association’s purely voluntary work, two street accidents were “staged” in the evening between 8 and 8.30 o’clock by the members of the Napier and Port Ahuriri Ambulance Division. One of the “aceidents” was outside the Central Hotel, and 'the other opposite J. R. McKenzie Ltd.'s in Hastings street. In both cases first aid was most promptly and efficiently rendered by the members of the Ambulance Division, and in the second case the “accident” was sufficiently serious for the patient to be removed tn an ambulance. The object of these demonstrations was fully attained, this being to give the publie an opportunity of seeing for , themselves the advantages to the comi munity of Kt. John training. Thanks ■ are due to the police force and traffle inspectors for the assistance given in staging these “accidents” for the purpurposes of training and demonstration, and also to Mr N. Annan, who sent the ambulance to the second accident. The street appeal resulted in £2B 11/8 being raised. Collectors were busy 1 all day long, and the public response shows that the association's selfI sacrificing work is not altogether unappreciated.
