MOTORISTS’ DINNER

Entertainment Programme LAST NIGHT’S FUNCTION _ After a busy day yesterday, the North Island Motor Union delegates relaxed last night and enjoyed the dinner and programme of entertainment tendered them by the Automobile Association (Hawke’s Bay) at the Masonic Hotel. They honoured a number of toasts, and listened appreciatively to the items given by some of those present. Dr. W. D. Fitz Gerald, acting-presi-dent of the association, was chairman of the gathering, among whom were the Mayors of Napier and Wairoa, Messrs. C. 0. Morse and H. L. Harker. Apologies for absence were received from the members for Napier and Hawke’s Bay, Messrs. IV. E. Barnard and H. M. Campbell, and from the Mayors of Hastings. Waipukurau, Waipawa, Woodville and Dannevirke, Dr. Fitz Gerald welcomed Mr A. E. Ansell, M.P., for Chalmers, who had, he said, worked continually and earnestly to further and protect the inters csts of motorists and the travelling public. Among .the toasts honoured were: ‘‘The King”; “The N.1.M.U.”, proposed by the chairman and acknowledged by Mr W. A. O'Callaghan, the union president; “The 5.1.M.U.”, proposed by Mr G. C. Tripe and acknowledged by Messrs. F. AV. Johnston and W. R. Carey; ‘‘Parliament of New Zealand”, proposed by Mr G. AV. Hutchison, C.M.G., rind acknowledged by Mr A. E. Ansell, M.P. y “The Press”. There were many enjoyable items of entertainment on the set programme, which included the following: Humorous stories by the toast-master, Mr A. E. Renouf; vocal numbers by the Napier, Savage Club Male Quartette (Messrs E. G. Stevenson, 11. C. Thompson, G. A. Peake and 11. J. Hill): songs by Mr J. McGrath; a humorous monologue by Mr Neil Gray.
