Monthly Meeting of Board I The monthly meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Education Board was held in Na 1 pier yesterday morning, Mr G. A. Maduison presiding over Messrs J. 8. Wauchop, It. C. Wright, AV. Cuthbertson, T. Tolman, C. Lassen, AV. Eraser, and the Revs. IL B. Waugh and I’. L. Frost. The Education Department advised I that the Minister had approved of a further grant of £lOOO for the current I year. This was additional to and , would be paid to education boards on the sumo basis as the present supplementary grant of £3OOO per annum. Payment of the arrears from April 1 would bo made at an early date. Subsequent advice was to the effect that the Hawke's Bay Board's share of the £4OOO was £285. It was reported 'to the board that the election in the Hastings urban area and tho middle ward of the rural area had resulted in the return of Mr C. Lassen and the Kev. F. L. Frost. Both members were accorded the congratulations of the board. The department advised that the Minister had decided to reinstate the payment of five shillings a week for tho board of each child over six years of age who, through remoteness of a school, had to live away from home to attend a public school. The grant was subject to the conditions hitherto existing when this allowance was paid, I except that no payment was to be j made in respect of children receiving post-primary education. Further advice from the department [ was received to tho effect that the Min I ister had approved of an increase in the payment of salaries and allowances of rationed teachers from August 1 as follows: —Those previously paid at £6O per annum now to be paid £72 per annum: boarding allowance to all re quired to live away from their usual place of residen-e (including those nt ■ scale relieving rates' previously paid I at £24 per annum now to I— r-’M j £1,3 per annum.
