Strickland Knocks Out Singleton By Telegraph—Press Association. INVERCARGILL, August 1. The heavyweight boxing contest be tween Maurice Strickland (12.11), of Wellington, and George Singleton (13.5), of Invercargill, was staged here this evening, Singleton being knocked Out in the fourth found. Strickland dropped Singleton for nine in the first round, and apart from the two blows that knocked him down, Singleton outboxed Strickland, but was unable to stand up to the latter’s strong right. As a tesult of this contest, Strickland has been selected to meet Ambrose Palmer here on August 18. In a preliminary bout W. Pascoe (12.12), Invercargill, defeated M. Soane (11.12), Motueka, on points. The decision met with a mixed reception.
