Sale at Stortford Lodge LIGHT YARDINGS ENTERED The Associated Brokers report on yesterday’s sale as follows:— A light yarding of 236 head of fat cattle came forward, and prices were on a par with last week’s rates, with the exception of light ox beef, which was slightly easier, but heavy ox beef sold well —best sorts making up to £8 30/-. The inquiry for cow and heifer beef was keen at, rates slightly in advance of last week’s. Wo quote: Prime heifers, up to £6 12/6, medium heifers, up to £5 10/-, light heifers, up to £4 7/-, prime cows, up to £5 8/-, medium cows, up to £4 10/-, light and unfinished cows, up to £3 5/-. Store cattle sold on a par with recant rates; a small entry of 58 head coming forward. An entry of 40 dairy cattle mot with mixed competition, but best sorts at drop fully maintaining recent values, and a very limited inquiry for backward and inferior sorts. Fat sheep: A light yarding of approximately 500 head with a consequently better tone for prime sheep. For light and inferior sheep the competition was on a par with last week’s rates. We quote:— Prime wethers, medium to heavy, 28/3 to 29/-; fat wethers* light weights 24/- to 26/-; prime ewes, 24/4 to 24/10; medium to good ewes, 22/-; light ewes 17/-, fat lambs, light, 19/9, fat lambs, medium to heavy, 23/10. Store sheep: A small entry of approximately 1000 head. For in-lamb ewes recent rates were maintained. For lines of good store wethers the inquiry is still keen. The inquiry for hoggets was well maintained, good, well-grown wether hoggets in forward condition made 20/-. For medium wether hoggets last, week’s prices ruled. For ewe hoggets the competition appears to be increasing, a line of good ewe hoggets making 23/10. Medium hoggets to 18/6, small and cully 15/8. Individual brokers report sales as follow:— N.Z.
