DOCTOR FLIES TO CASE
Hastings Plane’s Trip EMERGENCY JOURNEY MADE Another illustration of the uses to which the aeroplane can be put was provided yesterday afternoon by - flight made to Ngamatea Station, Mr D. Fernie’s property, 36 miles on this side of Taihape, by a Hawke's Bay Aero Club machine. A telephone message asking for immediate medical assistance for a resident on the station was received during the afternoon .by Dr. D. A. Buthgatte, who was flown to Ngamatea by Flight-Lieutenant A. G. errand. The flight took thirty minutes over country which, if the road had been used, would have taken seven hours to traverse. The road is in a particularly bad state on some sections, and it is doubtful whether even seven hours would have sufficed for a journey by car. Ngamatea is 3000 feet above sea level, and is incidentally the largest station in the North Island. The patient was found to be in a somewhat serious condition, and was brought back by the aeroplane with the doctor and the pilot, and taken to Royston Hospital by the ambulance, which was waiting at the aero-drome when the machine returned.
