FIRE IN WAIPUKURAU
A seven-roomed house a-t Lindsay Settlement, Waipukurau, occupied byMr R. O. Landsdowne, milk vendor, was totally destroyed by fire af 2 a.in. an Sunday. The owner was awakened by the noise of something falling, and on opening his bedroom door discovered the house in flames. He had to make a hurried exit, escaping Hi his night attire. Mr Landsdowne managed io save only a few articles of clothing. The day before he had the copper in the, adjoining washhouse alight, and it Is thought that sparks from the washhouse chimney caused the outbreak. Mr Landsdowne returned home from I Waipukurau at 11 p.m. on Saturday when everything appeared to be in order. Fortunately the owner’s wife and family were away from home at the lime. The furniture and effects were insured for £250, but the insurances on the bouse axe not available. A sum ot muuey »,us ulsu lust iu the fire.
