Hastings West School
At the meeting at the Hastings West School Mr. S. J. McKee presided over a good attendance of householders, and expressed his pleasure at the interest being shown in the school. He said that as he had served on tho committee for 14 consecutive years he thought he should now retire and make room for someone else. A credit balance of £BB 8/9 was shown in the balance-sheet presented by the chairman (Mr. S. J. McKee). In his report Mr. McKee drew attention to the satisfactory report that had been received on the school's working from the school inspectors. Several changes had taken place on tho staff during tho year. A slight loss on the working of the school baths was shown, ns a result of unseasonable: weather. The chairman, on behalf of the committee expressed their appreciation of the work of the headmaster (Mr. Driller) and his staff, and thanked those who had assisted the school, including tho Education Board, who had readily given their assistance when required. Messrs. Clark and Westerman, on behalf of a retiring committee, referred to the valuable services that Mr. McKee had rendered to the school during his long term of office, those remarks being received with applause. On tho motion of Mr. de Castro a unanimous protest was voiced against the action of tho Government in extending the term of school committees to two years.
