Hastings Central School

In his annual report the chairman referred to the recent renovation that had been carried out to the buildings which provided the children and the staff with much healthier conditions to work under. The thanks of the committee were due to the Education Board for having the work done so thoroughly and thereby bringing the school into lino with the other schools of the district. , During the year the children showed a decided improvement in all sports and for the swimming season the school had the assistance of Mrs. Fisher, Miss Shaw and Miss Hood, who gave instruction in both diving and swimming. The committee were grateful to these ladies for their valuable assistance and the hope was expressed that they would be able to continue their instruction next season. The inspectors’ reports showed a marked improvement in the work of the children during the year, which was gratifying to the staff and to the committee. Next year would be the 60th anniversary of the school and the hope was expressed that an endeavour would be made to form a committee of old pupils to organise a jubilee. Congratulations were extended to Mr. McCormack, the headmaster, and his staff on tho great improvement both in the school and the children during his first year in charge. Thanks were conveyed to the staff for the increased interest they were taking in their work and also to the Press. Appreciation was expressed by the chairman to the members and the secretary for tho co-operation they had shown in assisting the progress of the school. Mr. Ross was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his work as chairman which he said he had done in the interest of the children and for the bett,erment,of the school. The headmaster expressed appreciation of the fine spirit shown by the committee and the assistance that had been given at all times. Mr. F. S. Thomas was re-elected secretary and treasurer, Messrs R. Stace and H. Price were elected as delegates to the Dental Clinic. The following were elected a grounds and bath committee: Messrs Ross, Bennett, Miller, Mitchel and Jenkinson. It was decided to write expressing appreciation to the committee of the Good Cheer Depot for their splendid work during last winter.
