HEAD-ON COLLISION
Two Motor Cyclists GRAVE INJURIES SUSTAINED (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WAIMATE. April 9. As the result of swerving to avoid a stray horse, two motor cyclists collided head-on at Mahikihi on Saturday evening, Thomas Stoddart, aged 27, sustaining a broken leg and severe body injuries, and John Rathgen, aged 22, of Waimate, severe head injuries, a broken wrist and a broken leg. Stoddart, a motor cycle salesman, of Timaru, was transporting a cycle in a special side car attached to his machine, and Rathgeu’s machine struck Stoddart's between the engine and the side car. Both men were taken to hospital in a critical condition, but wore improved to-day. STRUCK BY A CAR Woman Seriously Hurt (By Telegraph-Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, April 9. As the result of being struck by a motor car at a street intersection last night, Mrs. Ellen Moorehouse was admitted to hospital with serious injuries. It was raining at the time, and the driver, a High School boy, stated that he did not see the woman till too late to avoid an accident. RIFLE GOES OFF Youth Seriously Injured (By Telegraph—Press Association.) OAMABU, April 7. Allen Mould, aged 17, was seriously injured yesterday when his rifle went off as he was getting through a fence at Kakanui, the bullet entering his side. He was taken to hospital, and his condition is serious. MAN INSTANTLY KILLED Discharge from a Gun (By Telegraph—Press Association,) TE AROHA, April 9. While out shooting on Saturday evening, Ronald Stockley, aged 23, slipped and received a charge from a gun in the head, causing instant death He is survived by a widow ami infant
