WHAKARIRE'S WORK
Visit by Board Members The business of the Napier Harbour Board being over very promptly to-day, members took the opportunity of inspecting the dredge Whakarire at work at the Breakwater harbour. Several large pieces of rock, one measuring over four feet across, n liich had been brought up were lying ou the deck, having been removed from the buckets by a small deck crane. 'They are at least fair-sized pebbles, ’ said Mr A. E. .lull. Three further pieces of rock were lifted from (he buckets while the board members looked on. .Soft material was also being brought up, but frequently it was not discharged cleanly from the buckets 'Buckets often came up containing not more than a shovel full ol material, the filling appearing ft> be irregular. Now that the dredge has been able to work into a face to a depth of 2C toet. it is expected that the dredging will be speeded up
