UNIQUE EVENT FOR H.B.
Aviation Event of Year DAY AND NIGHT DISPLAYS The Hawke’s Bay public are promised an outstanding aviation event next Sat urday when the Hawke’s Bay and East Coast A«o Club will stage the official North Island Air Pageant. The club bas expended much time, money and energy to ensure that no previous avia tion event will compare with this pageant. In the first place in addition to the afternoon display, a special night air pageant has been arranged, this for the first time in the Dominion. Those persons, therefore, who will be unable, for business and other reasons, to attend in the afternoon will have an opportunity of seeing an even more thrilling spectacle at night. Although "Smithy” will commence ■ight joyriding at 8 p.m., the displayproper will not commence till 8.30 p.m., continuing until 10.30 p.m. The club has also arranged that all competitive events, usually of little interest to the onlooker, will bo flown in the morning. This means that the afternoon programme will be a rapid succession of spectacular flying events, executed by the Dominion’s leading professional pilots and without any delay whatsoever between events. Many flying items will be seen for the first time and several are unique. The air battle between "Smithy” in the Southern Cross and Flight-Lieuten-ant Gerrand in a Moth should provide thrills. It has been arranged that the latter is eventually to be ‘‘shot down in flames’’ in quite a realistic manner. The latest Air Force machines will attend and give thrilling displays. These high-powered, fast fighters always cause a tingling down one’s spine as they dive to release rfteir bombs or to attack ground targets with machine guns. It is expected that six Air Force Machines will attend, covering three different types. Other thrills will be provided by Flight-Lieutenant D M. Allen and "Crazy Mac” MacGregor in aerobatic displays, "Scotty” Fraser with his parachute races and jump at night, wingwalking, crazy flying and aerobatics in illuminated machines at night. The club anticipates an attendance of some 50 visiting machines to this unique air pageant. They will come from all parts of the Dominion
