RESIDENTS WELCOMED HOME. From Our Own Correspondent A large number of residents assembled on Wednesday night to welcome Mr and Mrs H. Priest, who returned this week from their honeymoon tour. An adjournment was made to the supper room of the town hall, where Mr and Airs Priest entertained the guests with dancing, games, song and story. A delicious supper was served. Mr J. Ashby, on behalf of the residents, wished Air and Airs Priest every happiness and prosperity in their wedded life and thanked them for the very pleasant evening all had spent. All joined in singing “Auld Lang Syne” before dispersing. SEVERAL MINOR ACCIDENTS. This week several small children have been the victims of accidents of a more or less serious nature.. Billy Reid, the youngest son of Air and Mrs G. Reid, had the misfortune to break his right arm. It is not known how the accident happened, but the child was in bed at the time. He was taken to the public hospital, where the limb was set. Winnie Davis, daughter of Air and Airs Davis, Te Kura, fell on some barbed wire and cut her face so badly that she had to be admitted to the hospital for treatment. Another small boy cut his tongue when he slipped off a rail on which he was playing, and a girl had her face cut by a stone. All are progressing favourably. FROST DAMAGES CROPS. A severe frost on Wednesday night did considerable damage to tomato, pumpkin and maize crops. These crops, owing to adverse weather conditions, had been very backward prior to the rains early in February, but since had made phenomenal growth and up to Wednesday were looking better than similar crops had done for many seasons past. The loss will be a serious one to small farmers.
