LORRY CRASHES INTO BRIDGE STRUCTURE BADLY DAMAGED (From Our Own Correspondent) A lorry crashed through a small bridge on Mill road, Ongaonga, on Tuesday, doing considerable damage to the structure. The driver of the lorry was uninjured. At Monday’s meeting of the Waipawa County Council a tender was accepted for the erection of a new bridge, and apparently the work is not being done before it was needed. PERSONAL NOTES. Mr A. K. JuII, M.P., returned to Waipawa yesterday from a brief visit to Christchurch. Betty Hunt, a pupil of the Waipawa District High Sccool, had the misfortune to break an arm while playing in the school grounds on Monday. Mr and Mrs Jas. Bibby, Miss Bibby and Mr R. Bibby have returned home after a motor tour during which/ they visited Waikaremoana and Rotorua. Miss Muriel Baker is at present on a visit to her mother at Khandallah, Wellington. Her brother Ronald recently met with an accident which necessitated a very serious operation, from which he is recovering slowly. Mr N. Rapley, of the staff of the Waipawa branch of the Bank of Australasia, is on a holiday visit to his parents at Levin. RATE PENALTY. Sitting in committee, the Waipawa County Council considered several letters from ratepayers who were late in meeting their demands asking for the temission of the 10 per cent penalty. The council decided that no rebate could be allowed. HOSPITAL R \DIO FUND.
