THE WAIPAWA BOARD BUSINESS OF THE MONTH MATTERS OF INTEREST DIS CUSSED. From Our Own Correspondent. The monthly meeting of the Waipawa Hospital Board was held at Waipunurau yesterday, the chairman, Mr W. H. Rathbone, presiding over Messrs T. P. Hunter, H. W. White, N. G. Hawthorn, W. Matthews, B. G. Atkins, L Glenny, D. Eddy and P. R. Smyrk, secretary. The medical superintendent, Dr. J. Lewis Reed, and Dr. G. Alaclean, medical superintendent of the Pukeora Sanatorium, were also in attendance. A letter was received from the Direc-tor-General of Health, advising that although ho forwarded a recommendation to the Treasury that £lOOO be paid during the incoming year for Sanatorium reconditioning, the secretary to the Treasury advised that the proposal could not be agreed to, as it was necessary under the present financial arrangements to borrow money to meet commitments. The original agreement would therefore be adhered to and the Treasury pay the sum of £250 during the incoming year, the secretary explained. The letter was received. The Director-General of Health wrote forwarding the inspecting accountant’s report dn his recent visit to the board’s office and expressing pleasure that the board was taking steps to improve its fees accounting system. The DirectorGeneral also advised that the board’s by-laws should be brought up-to-date.— Received. It was decided that the chairman, secretary and finance committee tentatively compile the necessary by-laws, for submission to the health authorities. Then, when approved, these bylaws would be returned and placed before the board. Dr. J. Mitchell Coutts, wrote conveying his appreciation of the consideration received whilst a temporary member of the medical staff at the Pukeora Sanatorium.—Received. A letter was received from the hen. secretary, W.D.F.U.. conveying thanks for consideration given to Mrs T. Bruce, of Otane, at the Pukeora Sanatorium. — Received. Mrs. E. Hurst conveyed thanks for the care and attention accorded her while a patient in the Waipukurau hospital. "This adds one more to the large number of letters of appreciation we receive from ex-patients, and it should be passed to the nursing staff,” said the chairman. Correspondence containing particulars of prohibited immigrants, was received from the Director-General of Health.—Received. A letter was received from the D'rec-tor-General of Health conveying Ministerial approval for capital expenditure on diathermy and cooling apparatus.— Received. Messrs Carlisle, McLean, Scannel and Wood wrote expressing pleasure that the board contemplates arranging a suitable method of perpetuating the memory of the late Sir R. D. D. McLean, and that they are notifying Lady McLean accordingly. The chairman explained that the matter of the memorial had been discussed by the finance committee, but no finality had been reached. The matter was adjourned for a month. The secretary of the Hospital Boards’ Association wrote suggesting that this year’s conference be postponed and asked for the board’s opinion on the subject. The chairman said he was in favour of the conference being postponed, as in hi s opinion it was not productive of sufficient results. ■
