Variable Demand for Ewes WETHERS MAKE GOOD PRICES There was a somewhat patchy sale for breeding ewes at Stortford Lodge yesterday when an entry of 22,000 storu sheep came forward. In conseq-usnce values realised were on a par to slightly easier on last week. Young ewes were slightly easier, older ewes making comparatively better ealee. Fattening lines of ewes -were in fair demand, making up to 14/9. Lambs met a good inquiry, with export operators taking an interest in a few well-finished lines that were •ntered. Wethers were In short supply and made rates on a par with last week. Included amongst yesterday’s entries were a few lines of ewes running with the rams, but these did not appear to be in great demand. The quality of the entry was mixed, with a number of back-country lines of lambs and ewee entered. Some of the entries and prices paid, from which nn idea of the state of the market may be obtained, were as follow:— A Patoka draft of 166 Romney crossbred wether lambs, store conditioned, met the market at 10/4. Down from the Kaiwakas and offered on account of Messrs Lee Bros., a pen of 90 mixed sex lambs, fairly grown and store-conditioned, realised 11/3. A pen of 63 aged store ewes, mixed in the mouths and in hard store order, sold out at 8/4. A hardy line of 130 2-th ewes, down off high copntrv, fairly grown, made 17/1. Fairly framed and soundly-mouthed, a pen of 115 store-conditioned ewes, mixed ns to type of wool, sold at 14/-. A Gisborne draft of 2-th wethers. 84 email-framed sheep in the line, made 16/2. A draft of ISO aged fattening ewes, store-conditioned and early-shorn, real ised 13/4. A bid of 21/3 secured a yen of maiden 4-th ewes, well-grown and in . good order, carrying a good class ot i Wool. t , I An Echills draft of soundly-mouthed , E-yt ewes, offered on account of Mr E.
