The second Rainbow Shield carnival will be held at the Mahora Baths next Thursday evening at 8 o’clock. The i inthly meeting of the Hastings Townswomen’s Guild will he held on March 1. in the Assembly Hall. Music, items will be an attractive part of the programme. The Hastings and District Scots’ Society will hold their Ingleside in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Market, street, on Monday night, Feb. 26, at 8 o’clock. Assembly at 7.55. The Havelock North Women’s Institute will hold a garden party at Mrs Greenwood’s, Duart road, on Saturday, March 3. A free ’bus will run from Havelock North. The annual meeting of the Havelock North Belief Association will be held in the Town Board room at 7.30 on Wednesday, February 28, and a large attendance is requested. As the need this coming winter may be considerable, eash donations and gifts of warm clothing arc invited.
The secretary, Public Works Tenders Board, Wellington, invites tenders up to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March .13, for the construction of the Makaretu Stream road bridge, on the Mangnpoike Valleyroad, Wniroa County. Plans and specifications may be seen at. the Public Works offices, Napier, Wairua and Gisborne. Old boys of Wellington College are invited to attend a meeting in the Hastings Chamber of Commerce room on Thursday, March 1, at 8 p.m. to consider the. formation of u Hawke’s Bay sub-association. The Hastings Horticultural .Society has decided to hold a dahlia, zinnia, aster, and fruit show in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Market street, Hastings, on Thursday, March 8. This is tho first show of its kind to be held in Hastings, and if successful will be continued annually. Membcs are asked to give all possible assistance to make this show a success. This can be brought about by members competing and inducing their friends to do so r.nd attend tho show. Special classes are included in the schedules for competition in fruit, and it is expected that this will be a feature of the show.
The Heretaunga Swimming and Lifesaving Club have been successful in securing the appearance at the Maddison Baths next Wednesday of W. Whareaitu the New Zealand backstroke champion,
who is also the holder of the national 50 yards free style record. Whareaitu will make an attempt on the 100 metres backstroke record and will also appear .in the open races. Negotiations are also in hand for the appearance of D. D. Lindsay, who at the recent national championships gained three senior titles. Full details of the carnival will be published in Monday’s “Tribune.”
Even though the world is in a state of turmoil, most people’s lines are at times cast in pleasant places. This is an experience most people enjoy to the full at the annual Puketapu sports meetings. Puketapu is a pleasant place to be at on sports day, and it is a place that has gained its popularity on those by providing not only a most thoroughly enjoyable day’s sport, in which
variety and attractiveness are salient features, but such a hearty welcome to visitors as makes the outing distinctly pleasurable. This year’s sports gathering will be held ou Saturday, March 17, (the Saturday after the autumn Show), and it is safe to say that most people who can get there will >e at I’aketaou on that day. The annual dance will bo held in the Puketapu Hall in the evening.
