H.B. AUTUMN SHOW

Grain and Field Crops ENTRIES CLOSE ON MARCH 1 Amongst the important classes at the Hawke's Bay Autumn Show, which, however, do not always receive the support which their importance justifies and which should be given to them, are the root, grain and seed, sheaf, field crops, and maize-growing competition classes.

In view of Hawke’s Bay’s position as a seed-growing district, it might be expected that these classes would receive the attention of growers, arid that they would show, by the number of entries and the quality of exhibits, to what a high standard this branch of farming has reached. Similarly, the province has always been noted for its particularly fine root crops, and it is desirable to maintain this high reputation, so it is hoped that a large and good display will be made. The maize-growing competition was looked upon a few years ago as worthy of the strongest support, and in earlier competitions, the competitors were deservedly commended by the judges for the all-round excellence of their work. It should be noted that a hand, some cup has been donated for this cpmpetition, and this should certainly stimulate growers to make as good a display as possible.

Entries for all classes close on Thursday, March 1. .
