Horsfall at Cambridge
IMPRESSIVE SHOWING
(Received 22, 10.10 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 21. In the Cambridge inter-collegiate finals J. C. Horsfall. ..an Australian, won the 100 yards in 10 2-5 seconds, and the quarter-mile, in which he defeated Rathbone, in 50 1-5 seconds, and the long jump with 22ft. 2in. “Has Cambridge discovered another Stanwood?” asks the “Daily Telegraph,” commenting on the triple success of Horsfall, whom it describes as a great find. A critic says he is not surprised that Horsfall has already jumped 23} feet in Australia, for he has all the attributes of a natural jumper. He describes Horsfall’s defeat of the redoubtable Rathbone as one of the finest quarter-miles he has seen. Horsfall’s build and style are reminiscent of Dr. Reid, the Scottish sprinter and British champion, but he does not infer that the Australian is in that category yet.
