OBITUARY
Mr. J. M. Lightfoot
Private advice has been received at Blenheim of the death at Auckland ot Mr. J. M. Lightfoot, formerly manager at Blenheim of the Bunk of New South Wales, president of the Marlborough Patriotic Association, president of the Marlborough Chamber of Commerce and other bodies. He retired in 1929 after 31 years as manager of various branches and toured England and the Continent before taking up residence at Auckland. He is survived by a widow and daughter who resides in Melbourne. Mrs. E. T. Kane — Mrs. E. T. Kane, J.P., died at Lewisham Hospital, Wellington, after a brief illness. She was formerly the wife of Mr. Baume, M.P. for Auckland. who died in 1910. She married Mr. Kane in 1921. She once stood for Parliament while in Auckland and polled well. She took a very active part in Auckland activities and after her arrival in Wellington soon became known as a woman of high attainments. She became a member of the Wellington College Board of Governors and revived the National Council of W’omen. As a J.P. she took a keen interest in the affairs of the association. She brought up three sons, one of whom is editor of the Sydney “Sun,” one sub-editor of the Launceston “Examiner’’ and one in the radio business in Sydney. Mr. George Withers The death has occurred at Gisborne of Mr. George Witters, after a long illness. He was a sheepfarmer and a prominent local body member.
