ATHLETES’ TOUR
Suggestion from Canada PRELUDE TO EMPIRE GAMES (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 12. A suggestion that New Zealand and Australian teams competing in the next British Empire Games at London this year might travel to England via Canada was made in a letter received from the British Empire Games Association of Canada and read at last evening’s meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. The suggestion was made that athletes might accept a limited number of engagements with Canadian clubs. Vancouver, Calgary, Edmanton, Winnipeg, Hamilton and Montreal are practically in a straight line country and the proposed competitions would not be severe as the visiting teams would be competing only with local clubs. A similar suggestion is being made to Australia. It was decided to communicate with the Australian authorities. The Canadian Association also advised that a team of 12 schoolboys would be going to Australia and suggested competition in New Zealand. It was decided to communicate with New Zealand schools to see if arrangements were possible.
