INFANTILE PARALYSIS
Dr. Kramer’s Vaccine NEW YORK, Dec. 21. Dr. Kramer describe dthe recently discovered infantile paralysis vaccine (mentioned in yesterday’s cables) as a mixture of the virus of infantile paralysis and the convalescent serum obtained from the blood of recovered patients. He said that the virus which causes the disease is not a gem, but some agent too small to be detected by the most powerful microscope, while the convalescent serum is believed to contain immunising or neutralising chemicals produced in the patient’s body that render the disease virus harmless. The announcement has created great interest. Dr. Morgan, of the Commonwealth Health Department, who is touring the United States, said he had not yot had an opportunity for inquiry into the Long Island method. He added, however: “It sounds possible and quite all right.”
