NEW GOVERNMENT BUILDINGS

Appointment of Architect MR VINCENT HARRIS British Official Wireless Service. RUGBY, December 20. Mr Vincent Harris, an architect, ha & been appointed for the new Government buildings at Whitehall. He is 54 years of age and won a competition in 1914 for the Board of Trade building, the construction of which was postponed owing to the war. The new Government buildings which are contemplated will stand between Whitehall and the Embankment and will house about 5000 civil servants. It is expected that the new buildings will cost over £2,000,000. Mr Thomas Tait is the architect for new offices in Edinburgh to cost about £400,000.
