OBITUARY

MRS ALICE MARY WEST The death occurred at Porangahau at midnight on Sunday last of Alice Mary West, wile of Mr Sidney West. The deceased, who was born at Clive. 59 years ago, was the only daughter of Mr and Mrs Kelly, pioneers of that district. She had lived at Clive, Mahora, Hastings and Nuhaka and 13 years ago settled at Porangahau, her husband taking up farming there. Those who were privileged to know her esteemed her for her kindly and Christian character, and the sympathy of a wide circle of friends will go out to Mr West in his sad loss. The interment, which was of a private nature, took place at the Waipukurau Cemetery. The Rev. Father O'Donnell (Waipawa) officiated at the graveside. MRS J. O’LEARY. Mrs J. O’Leary, of South Norsewood, died at the Dannevirke Public Hospital last Monday evening. The late Mrs O’Leary, who had resided in Norsewood for many years, had been in poor health for some considerable time. Deceased was well known throughout the Norsewood and Ormondville districts, and her demise at the age of 69 has removed from a very wide circle a very real and sincere friend. The deepest sympathy of her friends is extended to members of the family in their great loss. Mr John Bennett, a well-known citizen of New Plymouth, had a fatal seizure at his business premises, Devon street, on Tuesday. He had been in indifferent health for some time and an inquest will not be necessary. Mr Bennett was born in .New Plymouth and was 63 years of age. Mr Bennett was a prominent cricketer and athlete ns a young man and was active ns timekeeper to many sports bodies sine* his retirement from active sport. Mr Bennett acted as timekeeper at the Taranaki Jockey Club's race meetings for many years, resigning only last year. A keen bowler he was a past president of the Fitzroy Bowling Club. Wanganui exchanges announce the death there of Mrs Elizabeth H. Treadwell, widow of tho late Rev. A. H Treadwell, for many years vicar of the parish.
