DISASTER AT SEA
STEAMER FOUNDERS Collision With a Trawler SEVEN OF CREW DROWNED (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Received 22, 1.15 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 21. As a result of a collision in a thick fog off Spurn Head between the Swedish steamer Castor and the Hull trawler Kurd, the Castor, a vessel of 569 tons, sank almost immediately and the stewardess and six male members of the crew were drowned. The captain and six others were rescued by the Kurd, which arrived at Hull. They say that the Castor was struck in the bows and filled rapidly and sank ini mediately before they were able to rouse sleepers. The survivors were left floundering in icy cold water and despaired of rescue as the trawler drifted away in the fog. Eventually they were saved by ropes and boathooks. A heavy fog in the Channel is delaying many ships.
