OBITUARY
Rev. Father Le Pretie (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WAIROA, Dec. 21. The death occurred suddenly this morning of the Rev. Father Peter Le Pretre. He was born in Nantes, France, 77 years ago, ’and came to the Dominion over 50 years ago, 40 of which, he spent in this district. He was appointed first resident priest here in 1894, and since carried on missionary work among the Maoris, from which he retired a month ago. The late Rev. Father was well-known by the Maoris in the Hastings district, among whom he ministered for many years, and they will be deeply grieved at his death. Knud Ramussen, Explorer (Received 22, 12.45 p.m.) COPENHAGEN, Dec 21. The death has occurred of the explorer, Knud Rasmussen, in consequence of food poisoning on a recent expedition in Greenland. Tod Sloane, Famous Jockey (Received 22. 12.35 p.m.) LOS ANGEI.ES, Doc. 21. Tod Sloane, the famous jockey, died on Thursday after a lingering illness. Sir Henry Dickens (Received 22, 1.10 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 21. The death is reported of Sir Henry Dickens, the only surviving son of the novelist, Charles Dickens, He was knocked down by a motor-cyclist. Mr. Eugene Corri (Received 22, 12.55 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 21. The death is reported of Nr Eugene Corri. the boxing referee.
