HASTINGS TRACK NOTES
THIS MORNING’S GALLOPS.
(By
“The Barb.”
Very nearly all the fast work this morning was done on the inside grass track, and the trestles were out over the regulated distances.
Hunting Star (J. Olsen) ran his halfmile nicely in SlJsecs. This gelding is continuing to show improvement.
Chesham (E. Deslandes) and Kinibo (R. Foote) were mates in a mile trial for the latter to go the better in 1.54). Blessing (R. Eoote) took 54Jsecs. to cover half a mile.
Highgrader (J. Olsen) took 69)secs. to do five furlongs, the last three in 41|secs. The Lord Quex gelding was doing it well within himself all the way, and appears as though he will be back to form in a very short time.
Abbey Feuie (I*. Ryan) against the bit ran four furlongs in 56secs. Marae Quex (J. Olsen) was five lengths too good for Bold Bdl (B. Boyle) in a halfmile, spin in 53>ees. The former has been in active work for a few weeks only.
Pitfall (P. Atkins) ran her threequarters of a mile in 1.19. She ran the first two furlongs iij 24)secs., and the threw in a tick under 37.
Shirred Ribbon (B. Boyle) was a neck in front of Trackman (J. Green) at the end of four furlongs in 53secs., but neither was ridden out.
The best short gallop of the morning was done by Royal Shift CP. Atkins), who just broke 50 secs, for half a mile. He goes to Manawatu, where he will be ridden by P. Atkins.
Speed (B. Boyle) was also responsible for a fair gallop when he left six furlongs behind in 1.17, the first two in 24, and the three in 36 J.
Gold Mag (S. Fanning) and Ex Dono (E. Deslandes) did a mile in 1.521 for the former to do it the easier.
Emotion (P. Atkins) had but very little to spare over Cuticle (J. Webbey) at the end of six furlongs in 1.174 —a very fair effort, as the pair went off from a standing start. Cuticle’s effort was her best for some time. Emotion looks in great nick for his Manawatu. trip.
On the plough Tareha (E. Griffiths) and Goshawk (K. Topping) went once round at a working gallop pace to run the last six furlongs in 1.29. Lady Wessex (J. Webbey) and Vanestep (P. Atkins) were together at the end of five furlongs in 65Jsecs., but were not ridden out.
Lavina (C. Stratton) and Royal Solo (S. Mathieson) did pace work, together to come home the last two furlongs. Both moved freely.
On the plough Manuiri (I. Callahan) and Dusky Crown (S. Fanning) were associated in a working gallop over six furlongs to run 1.20 J.
Tycoon (P. Atkins) ran half a mile in 56secs., but the pace was only on over the final two furlongs. Seattle (8. Fanning) did a couple of rounds at easy pace work to come home the last three furlongs in 37Jsecs.
Grand Vizier (I. Callahan) had a clear-cut decision over Pikiao (C. Stratton) at the end of five furlongs in 65secs. Passion. Flower (P. Atkins) was going very easily when finishing a length ahead of Silver Beam over three furlongs in 38jsecs.
Fondle (C. Stratton), who has cleaned up nicely with last Saturday’s race, did a couple of rounds to gallop the last three furlongs in 37secs. This mare was never better than at present.
Slippery also did a couple of rounds to brush home the last two furlongs. Ho is in capital nick. Queen’s Pride (B. Boyle), against the bit, ran three furlongs in 37)secs. Stitch (J. Leach) ran six furlongs at about even time. He is another that is in tho best of condition.
Lone Spear (S. Fanning) was just ahead of Flakewhite (J. Olsen) at the end of their half-mile go in 52-Jsecs.
Others to be out but restricted to pace w’ork w r ere Silver Song. Sunny Maid, Pohika, Tino Waiata, Cawbeen, Royal Record, Mana Gift, Passion bruit, White Fang, Conference, Blue Boy, Asterisca. Lady Makere,’ Kind Words, Hukemanu and others who are not engaged at Hastings-
