THE MARDI GRAS

BOXING DAY ARRANGEMENTS In the advertising columns, details of classes and prizes in the baby parade on Boxing Day, and the children’s procession are to be found. The baby parade is not a baby show but a procession of decorated prams, push carts, dolls’ prams, tricycles and trolleys or floats. Special prizes will be awarded for the attendants in fancy costume with displays, and also for babies in the decorated prams, or push carts. The baby parade will commence at 1.30 p.m. sharp, and will be followed by the children’s procession at two o’clock. The following classes are included this year: Paper costumes, original costumes, fancy costumes, comic costumes, and trade or poster costumes. Separate prizes will be awarded to boys and girls, and the sections are under six years, under 10 years, under 14 years and over 14 years. All the wrestling contests will be controlled by the Napier Wrestling Association, who have kindly lent their stage and ring for the Mardi Gras. All athletic events will be under the direction of the Napier Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club. Included in their programme will be the great marathon race, which is causing great interest. All the best side-shows in the Dominion will be on the ground, including Millar’s merry-go-round, and chair-o’-plane. Baker’s variety entertainers and wrestlers. Lupton’s monkey speedway and Stewart’s wellknown vaudeville company. Afternoon tea will be obtainable from the St. John’s Ambulance Association, whose headquarters will bo at the Pirates’ gymnasium. Soft drinks, ice creams, candy floss and pop corn will all be available on the ground, and hot water will be supplied free to anyone requiring it. Admission charges are 1/-, which admits afternoon and night, children 6d. for the same privilege. On Thursday night, 28th instant, a monster fireworks display will be presented, of the same high standard as that seen during carnival week. New Year’s Eve, Saturday. 30th. will see the final official night of the season, when the old year will be seen out and the new year welcomed in by, it is hoped, a record crowd.
