COMING EVENTS

A benefit concert will be given at’the Hastings Trades Hall next Thursday night, when a varied programme will be supplied by local artists. Seats may be booked at Denton Wyatt’s. The monthly meeting of the Hastings Townswomen’s Guild will be held on Thursday, November 9, in the Assembly Hall. Musical items will be given by the music circle. At the Havelock North Women’s Institute gathering on Wednesday, November 8, Mrs Bibby will be the speaker. The competition will be made-up flour bags, and there will bo a collection for the leper station funds. The annual sale of work arranged by St. Matthew’s Women’s Guild of Fellowship will be held next Saturday. This year an experiment is being made by holding the sale in the shop next to Ritchie’s, kindly lent for the purpose by Mr Thomas Ritchie. Patrons are requested to note that to-night is the last night of the skating season at the St. George Skating Rink, Warren street, Hastings. This will bo an extra late session, with two Monte Carlo’s. With good music and a lively programme patrons are assured of receiving value for their money. The Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club will commence its season next Tuesday evening at 7.45 p.m. All roads will lead to Nelson Park, Hastings, as everyone has been waiting for this night, and the fields are large with a splendid array of talent. The opening promises to be the start of a successful season for the amateur club. Napier is sending out all its competitors to try conclusions with the Hastings runners and cyclists, so those who do not attend the opening night will be sorry. The price of admission is only sixpence for adults and threepence for children.

The story of the Pied Piper of Hamlin has always been a favourite, and to see this executed in dances by the students of the Barrie School of Dancing will be one of the numerous attractions on the programme of the dance recital to be presented in the Municipal Theatre, Hastings, on Friday evening next at 7.45 o’clock. Dainty and classical dancing, both solo and duo, attractively dressed ballets, character dances, fairy tales delightfully told by. the movements of the dancers, are only a few of tho many interesting items on the programme. There will also be special items by tho two principals of this excellent school of dancing, the Misses Grantham and Patston. Special attention has been given to the dressing of the various artists, and assisted with suitable scenery and special lighting effects, an enjoyable evening is promised. Admission is 2/6, 2/- and 1/-, free of tax to ticket holders, children 1/- to all parts. The box plan for D.C. and O.S. 2/6, children 1/-, opens at Fail’s on Wednesday, November 8.
