ARMISTICE DAY
Observance as Hitherto (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 3. Advice has been received from the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs that His Majesty the King has approved of arrangements for the observance in Great Britain of Armistice Day, November, 11 on the same lines as last year. The Prime Minister of New Zealand, in the current Gazette, requests citizens and traffic control authorities to observe the usual practice of two minutes’ silence from. 11 a.m., and the suspension of all vehicular traffic during that period.
Hastings Arrangements
In Hastings the observance of Armistice Day will be marked by the holding of a brief service at the Cenotaph in Busell street. The service, which will be conducted by the Ministers’ Association in conjunction with the local R.S.A., will commence at 10.55 o’clock. The two-minutes’ silence will be followed by the Benediction. The Fire Board has approved of the suggestion that the fire syren be sounded at 11 o’clock, and again at the end of two minutes, and with a view to bringing about a suspension of vehicular traffic the Borough Council is being approached to have a number of returned soldiers stationed at the principal intersections of the main streets to hold up all traffic during the period of silence.
