ESCORTED BY BANDS

MR DE VALERA AT ENNISCORTHY “PEACE AN URGENT NECESSITY.” (Received 16, 2.10 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 15. Thirty men on horseback and four bands escorted Mr de Valera in an open carriage with top-hatted coachmen and a footman into Enniscorthy, where he addressed several thousand people, declaring that the Free State could not afford to dissipate her energy in bickerings. Peace was an urgent necessity, for which the Government was determined to prevent disorder. He warned those planning a dictatorship that the Irish people would not abandon their liberty without a long and bitter struggle.
