SIX RECORD! AT CAULFIELD CHATHAM WINS THE STAKES By Telegraph—Press Assn—Copyright. MELBOURNE. October 16. The weather was Une and there was an excellent attendance for the Victoria Amateur Turf Club's meeting at Caulfield. Aly Talisman, formerly raced by the ex-New Zealand trainer. A. D. Webster, had an impressive win in the hurdle lace. He is now trained by F. Hoysted, who had won the corresponding event in the two previous years with Tactiturn and Lynden. Sunclad, which was second m the Breeders’ Plate, had an impressive win in the Debutant Colts’ Stakes. His trainer Was W. Chaffe, formerly a leading mentor at the Sydney pony courses. The winner cost 86 guineas as a yearling. Waltzing Nellie led always in the Fillies Debutant Stakes. His trainer, H. Leek, had Waltzing Lily as a yearling. A Reed rode the winner. The much-boomed Hustle On made a wide turn and was last. Chatham had little trouble in gaming his sixth successive victory in the Caulfield Stakes. His rider, Pike, had won the event previously on Gothic and The Hawk. Middle Watch finished well. Kuvera made a satisfactory effort. Palphar led always in the Guineas and had a sterling win. Hall Mark had every chance, and Limarch finished stoutly. Palphar is engaged in ths Cup. Hall Mark's owner-trainer wah second last year with Tophole. Wheriko was prominent early but tired. Segati was brilliant in the Caulfield Cup trial, the Herbert Power Handicap. Segati was second in the Cup last year, and to-day's was his best effort for 12 months. Ruach and Picatus impressed Cup admirers with their finishing efforts. There was a thrilling finish in tho Toorak Handicap, which Chilpenc won in the lost stride. Gaine Carrington's finishing effort heartened his Cup supporters. L’Elite was never dangerous. The New Zealand horse. Weatherwise, ran a great race. Results:— Oby Hurdles.—My Talisman 9.11 1, Tangent 9.4 2, Phocis 12.3 3, Eight started. Won by a length and a-half, third back two lengths. Peter Blankney was fourth. Time. 8.38}, a course record. Debutant Stakes, Colts—Sunclad 8.0 1, Aztec 8.0 2, Groden Lad 8.0 3. Thirteen started. Won by half a length, third back three-quarters of a length. Panayan was fourth. Time, 47}, a course record. ‘Debutant Stakes, Fillies.—Waltzing Nellie 8.0 1, Lull 8.0 2, Lavage 8.0 3. Ten started. Won by three lengths, third back two lengths. Sixteen started. Won by one length and a-quarter, third back a length and a half. Burlesque was fourth. Time, 1.38., a course record. HERBERT POWER HANDICAP Segati 7.9 ... ... 1 Ruach 8.4 2 Purveyor 7.3 ... 3 Twenty-five started. Won by two and a-half lengths, third back a length and a-half. Picatus was fourth. Tune, 2.17}., a course record. Toorak Handicap.—Chilperic (H. Badger) 1, Turbine (D. Munro) 2, Gaine Carrington (J. Pike) 3. Nineteen started. Won by a head, third back a length. Weatherwise was fourth. Time, 1.43, a record. Middle Watch, which wa s slightly lame after the Caulfield Stakes, improved later. A. Knox, rider of Palphar in the Guineas was suspended for a month for crossing just after the start. Sectional times were:—Caulfield Stakes: First furlong, 13}secs., next four, 49}, last four, 47}. Guineas: First four furlongs, 49; last four, 49. Toorak Handicap: Last four, 48}. Herbert Power Handicap: Last four, 48|. THE RANDWICK MEETING. HURDLES WIN FOR THE MIRROR. SYDNEY, October 15. The City Tattersail's races were held at Randwick in idea] weather and before a large crowd. Results: — Brush Hurdles. —The Mirror 9.0 (A. McDonald) 1, Sarwin 9.0 (Bott) 2, Kirna 9.7 (McMenamin) 3. Seven started. Won by six lengths, easily, third back 2} lengths. Time, 3.381. The New Zealand horse, Tho Mirror, gave a fine display of jumping and made nearly the whole of * the running. City Tattersall’s Handicap—Satmoth 8.3 (Browne) 1, Love Song 7.11 (Pratt) 2, Serabite 7.0 (Parsons) 3. Twelve started, including Antique and Bold
Boy. Won by two lengths, third back half a neck. Ranchero was fourth. Antique was second to last. Time, 2.45. The New Zealand horses Autopay and Korokio were unplaced and ran disappointingly in the Flying Handicap, in which the placings were: Highboy 1, Tom Pinch 2, Questionnaire 3.. Havaspot, Goldman, and Safari wore unplaced in the Club Welter. R. Reed rode two winners, Gothlin and Sov. Tho stewards ordered the club’s veterinary surgeon to take a swab of the saliva of Aussie’s Delight, winner of the last race.
