Miss J. O’Donnell, of Hastings, left yesterday for Wellington, en route to Sydney. Capt. K. French, of the Salvation Army Boys’ Home, Putaruru, who has been on a holiday visit to her people, Mr. and Mrs. H. R. French, Hastings, returned north this morning. Mr. H. G. Apsey left Hastings this morning for Wellington on a business visit. Mrs. Apsey, who is going to Auckland on holiday, accompanied her husband as far as Palmerston North. A Wellington telegram reports the death-of Mr. J. A. Bhand, war correspondent during the South African War, and for many years editor of tho Thames “Star” and sub editor of the New Zealand “Times.” Members of the Napier Harbour Board to-day passed a resolution of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr H. E. Holland. The chairman (Mr T. M. Geddis) said that the board and the citizens as a whole deplored tho death of one who had given so many years in the service of the people of the ’Dominion.
