THE NEW REGENT

CONTRACT NOW SIGNED COMPLETION IN FIVE MONTHS. ARCHITECTURAL INNOVATION. A contract for the erection of the new Regent Cinema has now been let, and the contractor u prepared to begin work immediately. The new theatre is to ba situated opposite the Municipal Buildings, in Heretaunga street, and will be occupied by Williamson’s Picture Corporation, Ltd, who have leased it for ten year*. At a meeting of shareholders held last evening, the solicitors were in* structed to put this and other contracts which have been made into legal form and have them executed. The memorandum of association was approved and executed, and the company will be registered next week and provisional directors appointed.

As soon as these formalities are complete and the plans and specifications have been approved, the building will be commenced. It is expected that it will be finished in five months.

A sketch-plan of the building shows that it will be of strikingly handsome design, and architecturally an innovation so far as Hastings is concerned. The design is a modified form of Moorish architecture, and the main colour theme is a sandstone yellow with terra-cotta relief in the form of tiling, perforated panels, Moorish pillars, and scroll-work. Detailed plans will be to hand w-ithin the next day or two, and a further description of the building will then be published in this paper.
