WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT TANGOIO AFTERNOON FOR BRIDE-TO-BE The Tangoio Women’s Institute held its August meeting at the residence ot Mrs M. Osborne. There was a good gathering of members and a number ot visitors present, in spite of the wintry day. The meeting opened with the Institute Ode, after which the president (Mrs Osborne) welcomed the visitors and gave a short account of her impressions of the Dominion conference held in Christchurch, which she had attended as a delegate. Both members and visitors joined in a happy social afternoon for Miss Osborne, who was shortly to be married. The afternoon was organised by
Mrs F* Mahony and Mrs E. R. Lowe, vice-president. A competition caused much fun and was won by Miss Puddle. The bride-to-be received many beautiful gilts and great amusement was caused over the various parcels when opened. Mrs Lowe spoke on behalf of the institute members wishing Miss Osborne the best of luck m her new home. Miss Osborne suitably replied and thanked all present for their gifts and good wishes. A delightful afternoon tea was then handed around and the meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem . TE HAUKE GROUP. ENJOYABLE AFTERNOON. The monthly meeting of the Te Hauke Women’s Institute was held at the Mission House on Thursday. It was decided to hold a social afternoon at the end of the month, invitations to bo sent to both Northern and Southern Hawke’s Bay Institutes. A letter of thanks from the Hawke’s Bay Children’s Home was read. An account of the amusing side of the annual conference was given by the delegate, who has prepared a written report of the business side for each member. Afternoon tea was dispensed by Mrs Aplin, Mrs Brightwell, and Miss AnAnderson. After tea members adjourned to the Mission Room, where a splendid demonstration of seagrass stools was given by Miss McMihhael, assisted by Mrs Millar, Mrs Spatksman and Miss Craven, from Twyford Women’s Institute. Eleven stools were got well under weigh. Those who were not making stools carried on with rccd-loom basketry. A hearty vote of thanks to the demonstrators was carried with musical honours. A most profitable and enjoyable afternoon closed with the singing of the Women’s Institute song and God Save the King.
