WEDDINGS

VICKERS-DENTON. The wedding took place at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Levin, on Wednesday, August 9, of Florence Enid, eldest daughter of Mr H. Denton, and Norman Gace, eldest son of Mr and Mrs W. G. Vickers. The Rev. J. C. Davies performed the ceremony and the church was beautifully decorated by Mrs S. J. Thompson and a band of helpers. The wedding music was played by Mrs Stanley Harper, auut ot the bridegroom. The bride entered the church on the arm of her father. She was gowned in ivory satin, with a beautiiul veil of Houlton point de Duchesse leut by Mrs Denton, and over 70 years old, forming a train. She carried a sheaf of freesias and heath The three bridesmaids, Miss Valmai Cartwright, of Clive, Hawke’s Bay (Chief), Miss Grace Vickers and Miss Lois Denton, were gowned alike in silk crinkle crepe of boronia shade, with caps, mutts, and shoes of rust brown. The bridegroom was attended by Mr Don Gorringe as best man and Messrs D. Vickers and J. W. Denton as groomsmen. Mrs H. Denton’s frock was of old gold suede velvet and her bouquet of freesias and spring flowers, while Mrs W. G. Vickers’s posy toned with her frock of wine-coloured marocain. During the signing of the register, the song "Because'’ was charmingly sung by Miss Parton, of Wellington. After the ceremony a small reception was held at “Denaby,” the home of the bride’s parents, while later in the evening Mr and Mrs Denton entertained a large number of friends at a dance held in St. Mary’s Hall, which also had beep beautifully decorated with blossom and sprays of wattle. The handsome wedding cake was a gift from the bride’s uncle, Mr W. H. Wilson, of Hastings. When the bridal couple left by car for the south, Mrs Vickers was wearing a Harris tweed costume with small fawn chrysanthemum straw hat, with matching shoes and gloves. Their future home is at Moutoa. PEPPER—OSBORNE. A quiet and pretty wedding was solemnised at St. Andrew’s Churcb, Port Ahuriri, on August 9, when Gladys Margaret, only daughter of Mr and Mrs Osborne, of Tangoio, was joined in holy matrimony to William John, younger son of Mr and the late Mrs Pepper, of Tangoio. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. B. R. Brierly, of St. Andrew’s parish. Mrs Jessep, of Kaiwaka, presided at the organ. The bride, who entered the ehureh on the arm of her father, looked charming in an ankle length frock of cream satin. Her dainty tulle veil was arranged becomingly with a coronet of orange blossoms, and she carried n bouquet of pale pink carnations and cyclamen. She was attended by Miss Margaret Thorpe, who made a dainty bridesmaid frocked in ruby crepe de chene with coatee of cream panne velvet. She car ried a posy of red carnations. Tho mother of the bride wore a brown costume with multi-coloured scarf and carried a pretty bouquet of autumn-tinted flowers. After the ceremony the guests were entertained at the County Hotel, Napier. Among those present were: Mr Pepper, Mr and Mrs Priest, Mr and Mrs Macdonald, Mrs Thorp, Mr and Mrs Lowe, Mr and Mrs Wilkie, Mr and Mrs Way, Mr and Mrs Leggett, Mr and Mrs Leyland, Mrs Watty, Misses McKay, Puddle, Lowe, Priest. The usual toasts were honoured and speeches made to conclude a very happy gathering. The bride’s travelling frock was of saxe blue, with coat and hat to tone. The happy couple left later for tho north, where they are to reside. FOOTE—KING The wedding was solemnised at St. Augustine’s Church, Napier, on Wednesday evening, August 16, of Beryl Rito King, daughter of Mr and Mrs G. King, of Hawera, and Francis Albert Foote, son of Mr and Mrs E. A. Foote, of Dannevirke. Tho Rev. A. Hodge was the officiating clergyman. The bride, who was given away by her father, looked charming in a white lace frock, long and tight, with puff sleeves and long veil. She carried an attractive shower bouquet. The bridesmaids were Miss F. King, of Hawera (sister of the bride), and Miss E. Piercey, of Napier. The former was dressed in a powder blue moire frock and cape, while the latter was frocked in rose pink lace, with cape. Both frocks were long, and sheet and gloves were worn to match. Mr Cecil Foote carried out the duties of best man, while tho groomsman was Mr Ronald Osborne. Following the ceremony, a reception was held, at which a largo number of relatives and friends were present. The tables were beautifully decorated in shades of pink and blue, and a huge wedding cake held pride of place. The happy couple left on their honeymoon, which is to be spent in the north, the bride travelling in a royal blue frock, with hat and coat to nateh.
