MAIN EVENT TO PRINCESS ARGOSY FRACAS WINS THE STAKES CHRISTCHURCH, April 18. The Canterbury Jockey Club’s autumn meeting was concluded to-day. The weather was fine and the attendance good. The course was fast but hard. Totalisator investments amounted to £16,390, against £14,584 10/- ou the second day last year. The total for the meeting was £13,887 10/- against £38,735 last year. Princess Argosy led out of the straight from Great Star, Rebel Song, Gay Crest and Shatter. Passing the mile-post the order was: Princess Argosy, Tout le Monde, Great Star, Gay Crest, Rebel Song, Eminent and Shatter. Princess Argosy increased her lead rounding the far turn and at the half-mile was four lengths clear of Eminent lout le Monde, Shatter Jaloux and Rebel Song Shatter and Rebel Song Challenged Princess Argosy strongly m the straight, but she beat Rebel Song by a length and a half, with Shatter a neck away. Gay Crest was fourth. Time, 2-32 2-5. Gimcrack Handicap, of 150 sovs.; 6 furlongs.—2/3 Cottesmore (Wilson) 1, 3/4 Kemal Pasha (Mackie) 2, 7/7 Manetho (Humphries) 3. CHALLENGE STAKES Of 300 sos.; 7 furlongs. 1 Fracas (Voitre) 1 3 Sweet Agnes (MacKinnon) 2 2 Might (B. H Morris) 3 Only starters. The order at the start was: Fracas, Sweet Agnes and Might. The positions were maintained throughout the race. Fracas won by a length and a half from Sweet Agnes, with Might three lengths away. Time, 1.26. Templeton Handicap, of 200 sovs.; 7 furlongs.—4/4 Martian Chief (Wilson) 1, 1/1 Hurlingham (Turner) 2, 3/3 True Shaft (Ludlow) 3. Also ran: 2/2 Cricket Bat, 5/5 Irish Lancer, 6/6 Gustavo. Gustavo went to the front at the far turn and led across the top from Cricket Bat, Hurlingham, True Shaft and Martian Chief. The order was the same into the straight, but Martian Chief came through on the inside and won by a head from Hurlingham, with True Shaft three lengths away. Cricket Bat was fourth. Time, 1.25 4-5.
