TOO MANY SMALL SHOWS
THE ECONOMY POINT OF VIEW. “I would with some trepidation venture to put into words what is apparent to most people, and that is that one of the causes of the present financial trouble of many A. and F. Associations is the number of small shows which servo little purpose beyond providing a day’s outing for their supporters,” said Mr T. R. Hodder, hon. treasurer of the Manawatu A. and P. Association, when addressing the annual meeting of that body. “There is no question,” Mr Hodder proceeded, “that a large amount of time, energy and money is expended in maintaining them which, if thrown into a larger and more firmly established association, would make all the difference in the world. It would provide more life blood to the shows that are worth while. These sentiments have been privately uttered by many, but there are few who care to make them public. “Let me here say that it is not from any desire to hurt anyone’s feelings that I make these comments; I am simply looking at the question solely from an economical point of view, as tho A. and P. requirements could most undoubtedly bo filled by a much less number of show associations.”
