FIVE DAY WEEK BILL. ARMS EMBARGO. (Received 18, 12.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, April 17. The Senate to-day refused to consider the passage of the Five Day Week Bill, which was sent by it to the House, where important modifications are in prospect to meet Administration suggestions. The House to-day adopted the Arms Embargo resolution, granting President Roosevelt power to prevent the shipment of arms to warring nations. The resolution will now go to the Senate, where considerable opposition has been indicated. ARMY ECONOMIES. REDUCTION OF PERSONNEL (Received 18, 12.55 p.m.) WASHINGTON, April 17. A reduction of between 12,000 and 15,000 in the enlisted personnel of the army and of between 2000 and 3000 officers is involved in the War Department’ impending economy programme. The army' now has a strength of 117,000 enlisted men, and 12,000 officers. President Roosevelt has ordered a 144 million dollars’ cut in the next year’s War 'Department expenses.
