SYDNEY CUP TO BOGILLA. EASTER PLATE TO AIR QUEEN. SYDNEY, April 17. The second day of the Australian Jockey Club’s autumn meeting was held at Randwick to-day in warm weather. The track was in splendid condition. The attendance totalled 49.000. Autopay made amends for his display of bad manners in the Doncaster by jumping away smartly when the barrier was lifted. He was unable to maintain the advantage gained, but was splendidly handled. His jockey (Webster) came with a fast run in the straight to secure victory by a head. Rogilla gave a wonderful performance in winning the Cup. Running at the rear of the field for the first mile, he moved up sharply approaching the half-mile and, continuing his brilliant run, led the field into the straight. Going on, he reached the judge half a length ahead. Results:— La Perouse Handicap.—Autopay 9.7 (Webster) 1, Greenline 9.6 (Pike) 2, Lady Liuden 8.8 (Tanwan) 3. Fourteen started. Autopay jumped away smartly when tho barrier was lifted, but immediately lost his position when the field settled down, when Caravel Boy took command from Brazen Face. Captivation and Kichaka. With heads turned for home Caravel Boy and Brazen Face were together, followed by Kichaka, Greenline and Captivation. Easter Plate.—Air Queen 8.7 (MeCarten) 1, Heroic Lass 8.6 (Dunean) 2, Frinisel 8.6 (Simpson) 3. Eight started. Heroic Lass was first to show Out, but then Air Queen took charge and turned for home two lengths clear of

Heroic Lass, Frimsel, Spear Bello and Dame Minster. Heroic Lass issued a determined challenge at the distance, but Air Queen reached the judge with half a length to spare. Time, 1.26}. Giraganbil Handicap.—Panjandrum 9.2 (Bartie) 1, Touehit 7.3 (Britt) 2, Turbine 9.6 (MeCarten) 3. Eleven started. Fox Arna took the role of pacemaker and led into the straight from Wee March, Panjandrum, Touehit and Turbine. At the distance Touehit, Panjandrum, Turbine and Maltdale engaged in a stirring struggle from which Panjandrum emerged victorious with a head advantage. Time, 1.37}. SYDNEY CUP. Rogilla, 8.10 (Robinson) S Nord, 6.7 (Parr) 2 Gippsland 7.0 (Britt) .. .. .. 3 Eighteen started. Mr Kerry made the early running from Johnnie Jason, Kuvera and Mince Pie. At the half-mile Rogilla came from the rear of the field and joined the leaders. Turning for home Rogilla showed the way to Mr Kerry, Miss Nottava, Mince Pie, Johnnie Jason, Kuvera and Pretzel. Clearing out at the distance, Rogilla put the issue beyond doubt and won by a length. Time, 3.23. Wentworth Handicap.—Veilantif 7.10 (Browne) 1, Roxburgh 7.4 (Britt) 2, Gothlin 6.7 (Moran) 3. Twenty started. Emily Rose was the smartest out from Wexford, Veilantif and Montego, and Wexford was first into the straight from Emily Rose and Veilantif. Taking charge at the distance, Veilantif withstood a determined challenge from Roxburgh and won by a head. Time, 1.13}. Tocal Handicap.—New King 7.12 (Sharpe) 1, Version 8.2 (Pink) 2, Magnitas 7.0 3. Seventeen started. Circus Star took up the early running from Love Song, Forestry and Don Moon. At the distance Version took charge and appeared to have the race won when New King came with a fast run from the rear of the field to snatch victory by a head. He simply toyed with his opponents, some of whom, like Jacko, Parkwood, Johnnie Jason and Darnlid, are worthy of any picked field of milers in the Southern Hemisphere. Winooka’s best performances hitherto paled into insignificance after Saturday’s dazzling achievement.’’ The “Telegraph’’ says: “Winooka’s Doncaster win carries him past the possibility of further handicap victories, for his record efi'ort will bring with it stupendous weights.’’
