NEW WORLD RECORD EATON WOOD'S SYDNEY WIN. WINOOKA FOLLOWS SUIT. SYDNEY, April 16. The Australian Jockey Club autumn meeting opfened at Randwick on Saturday in ideal weather and on a splendid track. The attendance was 47,000. The Hurdle winner, Eaton Wood, opened proceedings by clipping two seconds off the world record of two miles. Winooka, winner of the Doncaster, followed the standard set by breaking the Australian and New Zealand record for a mile in addition to being the first best four-year-old to carry 9.13 to victory in this race. Peter Pan gave a splendid exhibition of his galloping ability by a smart victory in the St. Leger. Bay Acre secured the first victory on behalf of New Zealand by winning the first division of the Vaucluse Handicap in a manner that bespeaks future successes. Results:— First Hurdle Rare.—-Eaton Wood 9.13 (Douglas) 1, Yarrawin 9.7 (Pearce) 2, Prismatic 10.5 (Fielder) 3. Eleven started. Brass Buttons was the early pacemaker from Specimen, Prismatic and Eaton Wood. Passing the stand Stanley’s Gift and Prince Carol fell. At the mile jump Brass Buttons and Remission came down, leaving Sun Tan in charge from Eaton Wood, Yarrawin and Prismatic. Eaton Wood led at the final obstacle and reached the judge with a length to spare. Timo, 3.55, a world’s record. Autumn Plate.—Rogilla 9.0 (Robinson) 1, Pretzel 9.0 (Munro) 2, Veilmond 9.3 (Pike) 3. Other starters: Cimbrian, Shadow King, Isle of Astur, Topical, Lough Neagh. Passing the stand Lough Neagh showed the way to Shadow King, Isle of Astur, Cimbrian, Pretzel, Topical, Veilmond and Rogilla. Along the back Cimbrian joined Lough Neagh and they were followed a length away by Topical, Shadow King and Rogilla. The latter joined the leaders in turning for home, and in the run to the post Rogilla stalled off a strong challenge by Pretzel and Veilmond and gained the verdict by a neck. Time, 2.32 J. Sires’ Produce Stakes.—Hall Mark 8.10 (Duncan) 1, Maid of Orleans 8.8 (Skidmore) 2, Golden Hair 8.8 (Knox) 3- Ten started. When the field settled down, Leila Vale was in command from Maid of Orleans, Golden Hair, Shakuni and Hall Mark. Leila Vale was first to turn for home from Maid of Orleans, Hall Mark, Shakuni and Limareh. At the distance Hall Mark and Maid of Orleans raced away from the field, and after a desperate struggle Hall Mark prevailed by a head. Time, 1.24. Doncaster Handicap.—Winooka 9.13 (Pike) 1, Jacko 8.3 (Browne) 2, Parkwood 812 (D. Munro) 3. Seventeen started. Tom Pinch was the smartest to move from Lucre, Gaine Carrington, Winooka, Lady Linden and Dermid. Passing the half-mile post, Tom Pinch had a slight advantage from Lucre, Winooka, Gaine Carrington, Jacko, Dermid and Cynical. When the field straightened out for home Winooka smartly ran to the front and won with ease by two lengths. Time, 1.351, an Australian and New Zealand record. Autopay refused to move when the barrier lifted and took no part in the race. A.J.C. St. Leger.—Peter Pan 8.10 (Pike) 1, Oro 8.10 (Cook) 2, Kuvera 8.10 (Bartie) 3. Other starters: Metallurgy, Eastern Chief, Braeburn, La Moderne. Peter Pan was first to show out from La Moderne, Oro and Eastern Chief. Passing the mile, Oro clipped on the pace and was quickly half a furlong ahead of the field. At the halfmile he appeared likely to steal the race, but Peter Pan, finishing stoutly, gradually overhauled him and went on to win by two lengths. Time, 3.2. Vaucluse Handicap.—First Division: Bayacro .13 (Webster) 1, Loch Garry 10.6 (D. Munro) 2, Chcmosh 8.7 (MeCarten) 3. Thriteen started. Cliemosh was the early pacemaker from Bayacre, Confab, Red Shadow and Loch Garry. Turning for home, Bayacre assumed control and won untroubled by two lengths. Time, 1.24 J. Vaucluse Handicap. — Second Division: Panjandrum 9.6 (Bartie) 1, Celebrate 8.9 (Browne) 2, Dark Chief 9.3, D. Hunro) 3. Fourteen started. Panjandrum and Barrier King led into the straight from Dark Chief, Cabaret and Omagh. Finishing strongly, Panjandrum won nicely by half a neck. Time, 1.25.
