MISHAP AT RICCARTON

FOUR HORSES FALL ONE KILLED: THREE JOCKEYS INJURED CHRISTCHURCH, April 17. One. horse was killed and three jockeys were injured at Riccarton this afternoon. After the field had entered the straight in the Papanui Handicap, Scarlet Robe, ridden by R. E. Coveny, Errantry, ridden by C. E. Eastwood, Heather Glow, ridden by A. H. Eastwood, and St. John, ridden by A. Russell, fell. Scarlet Robe was killed and the other three horses galloped riderless to the post. C-. E. Eastwood is in hospital with a fractured left leg; his condition is satisfactory. A. Russell is in hospital with head injuries and concussion but is conscious, and his condition is satisfactory. R. Coveny is suffering from head injuries and is in an unconscious condition, though not serious. A. H. Eastwood suffered from a severely bruised shoulder and was ordered home to bed.
