RUGBY FOOTBALL
TUKAPA BEAT PIRATES. GOOD WIN FOR VISITORS. The visiting Tukapa Rugby Football team from New Plymouth gave a fine display in a friendly match against the Pirates seniors at McLean Park, Napier, on Saturday afternoon. The match, which was fast aud open, was won by Tukapa by 24 points to three. Pirates gained their only score immediately after the kick-off and for a quarter of an hour were on the attack. After that, however, the visitors asserted themselves, their forwards outplaying the Pirates vanguard, allowing their backs to execute many fine passing bouts. Tukapa predominated in the second I spell, although on three occasions overeagerness robbed Pirates of possible tries. Tukapa’s best forwards were McNeill, o’Dowda and Davidson, while Brown. Lobb and Walker shone in the backs. Mr S. Hunt was the referee. FOURTH GRADE. PIRATES (3) v. TECHNICOL 0.8. (3) In a friendly fourth grade match Pirates defeated Technical 0.8. by 13 points to three.
