RESULTS FROM FAR AND NEAR H.B.J.C. MEETING. GOOD FIELDS ENGAGED. The Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s Autv.mn Meeting opened at Hastings to-day in beautiful weather, there being a large attendance of the public. Ihe course was a little on the hard side, making the going very fast. Good fields faced the starter in most of the events. Arrangements for the meeting were ably carried out by the secretary, Mr H. 8. Muss, and his officials in a most capable manner. A popular programme of selections by the Hastings Citizens’ Band was greatly appreciated by the public. Following are the results up to going to press:— KIVEKSLEA HURDLE HANDICAP, Of 7u sovs; about 1J mile-1-1 Mr R. J. Brown 's br g Kinsel, aged, by King Mark —Selene, 19.11 (J. Leach) 1 4- Mrs T. Pirihi’s br g Red Bank. iged, by All Red—Willow Bank, 9.9 (A. P. McGuire) 2 3-3 Mr R. B. Foote’s b g Kimbo, aged, by Autumn—Ahum, 9.13 (G. Stratton) 3 Also started: 2-3 Whenuanui, 5-5 Kaokaoroa Whenuanui was best away to lead to the first fence from Kinsel, Red Bank and Kaokaoroa. After clearing the first jump, Red Bank moved into second place- , Passing the stand, Red Bank took charge from Whenuanui and Kinsel. Racing into the back, Red Bank was clear from the field, but running to the six furlong post Kinsel went on to join the leader, with Whenuanui two lengths away. At the far turn the favourite had run clear of Red Bank, with Whenuanui and Kimbo lying handy. Coming to the home turn, Kinsel drew out, while Kimbo went up to join Red Bank. Clearing the last jump the favourite was three lengths clear of Red Bank. Although the latter challenged, the favourite won comfortably by two and a-half lengths, with Kimbo three and a-half lengths further away third. Kaokaoroa was fourth. Time, 2.47. POUKAWA MAIDEN. Horne) ... 3 Also started: 10-9 Squeeze, 9-10 Hukemanu, 12-12 Dusky Crown, 6-6 Margaret Rose, 11-11 Boundary Maid. 7-7 Granny Quex. 5-5 Admatha, 2-1 Hunting Mars, 4-3 Bradman. On the barrier rise Dusky Crown was hopelessly left, while Royal Shift was also slow to start. When the field settled down Admatha was leading from Bradman, Queen’s Diadem. Rukernanu and Grand Sport Racing across the top there was no change among the leaders, but rounding the home turn Royal Shift ran into fourth place. Queen’s Diadem led into the straight from Bradman, Royal Shift. Hukemanu and the favourite. A hundred yards from the post Royal Shift joined the leaders to head off Queen’s Diadem over the last few yards. Almost in the last stride Grand Sport got up to heat Queen’s Diadem for second place. Royal Shift won by a half neck while Queen’s Diadem was beaten for second place by a head. Bradman was elose up for fourth in what was a most ex'ig finish Time. 1 8 NURSERY HANDICAP. From a fair despatch Slippery was best away from Hybiscus, Mercian Queen, Princess Bell. After covering a furlong Hybiscus took charge from Slippery, Mercian Queen, Princess Bell and Cullus. As the field raced across the top into the straight Hybiscus had charge while Mercian Queen had run into second position from Princess Bell, with Slippery and Cullus together just behind. Once in line for the judge, Princess Bell challenged Hybiscus, but Cullus almost immediately joined the leaders to come through in a fine finish to win by half a length. Princess 801 l held Limbohm for second place by a length and a half. Hybiscus was fourth, being a head further away. Time, ].7j IN AUCKLAND. By Teltfraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 15.
